It all started with a pandemic…

In 2020 Mama’s Sundry was born out of the desire to serve community. My name is Talibah Safiya (vocalist and songwriter) and my husband is Bertram Williams (actor and food justice advocate). We began our journey with a marketplace featuring locally crafted, holistically made products ranging from skincare to women’s support supplements. From there, we thought about the value of basic necessities at a time when so many were struggling just to eat and be well. What’s the one thing we all need every day? Food. Our own neighborhood had zero grocery stores in walking distance.

Inspired and disturbed, we turned our front yard into a garden we call, “The Hood Homestead” where we work with children in our South Memphis neighborhood to cultivate nutrient dense produce. We have hosted events teaching folks how to do this in their own neighborhoods and learning more about how to make this work sustainable. We host a podcast called Kitchen Talk and now we’re working to build our brand in a brick and mortar.

Our most recent discoveries have shown us that our desire to serve meets our artistic taste with ease. We are working to curate a brand that centers holistic wellness for mind and body by aggregating brands with our same ethos and making them accessible to our digital and physical communities.
